Love

love actually has got to be one of the best movies ever about christmas and love. 8 separate yet connected in some way love stories coming together at the end for a sweet ending at the airport. but i tink the version screened in s'pore has got a story missing. the one between john and judy. juz visited the website for the movie and found that out. anyway the story tt's sweetest in my opinion was the one between peter, his new bride juliet, and his best fren mark. mark's in love with juliet, but he hides it so well that both peter and juliet believes that mark dislikes juliet. juliet only finds out when she views her wedding video which was shot by mark. because the whole video's focus was her, she realises tt mark's actually in love with her, and come christmas eve, mark decides to tell her straight. and this is what he did. (sorry to those who haven watched it yea? =P)
mark rings the doorbell of peter and juliet's home and juliet opens the door
juliet: (surprised) oh, hello
mark: (brings finger to lips miming "shhh")
juliet: (nods)
peter: (from inside the house) who is it?
mark has brought a small tape player and several big white cards on which he has written some lines with felt pen, and the first one reads:
SAY IT'S CAROL SINGERS
juliet: (shouting to peter) its carol singers.
peter: give them a quid and tell them to bugger off
mark switches on the tape player, playing a tape of young carol singers singing Silent Night, and starts to produce the rest of the cards, one by one.
the cards:
WITH ANY LUCK NEXT YEAR

I'LL BE GOING OUT WITH ONE OF THESE GIRLS

(card showing 5 most beautiful women in the world)

BUT FOR NOW LET ME SAY

WITHOUT HOPE OR AGENDA

JUST BECAUSE ITS CHRISTMAS

(AND AT CHRISTMAS YOU TELL THE TRUTH)

TO ME YOU ARE PERFECT

AND MY WASTED HEART WILL LOVE YOU

UNTIL YOU LOOK LIKE THIS

(card showing a decomposed mummy and juliet giggles)

MERRY CHRISTMAS
(in the american release he produces one last card that says "FATSO" and juliet laughs)

juliet: (mouths) merry christmas
mark gives juliet 2 little thumbs up, picks up the tape player and turns away. juliet goes after him and taps mark on the shoulder, he turns and juliet kisses him on the lips gently. he smiles and walks away.
mark: (to himself) enough. enough now

pure unconditional love. even if the object of his desire's married, he still loves her without expecting anything in return. he is truly great. and also, love itself is a language that transcends cultural and lingual barriers. just check out the love story of jamie the englishman who speaks no portuguese, and aurelia the portuguese who speaks no english. shall end off with some lines from the movie =)

sam: the only thing about romance is people only get together right at the very end

daniel: tell her that you love her. you've got nothing to lose and you'll always regret it if you don't

mark: to me, you are perfect

mark: its a, self-preservation, thing

karen: true love lasts a lifetime

here's a early merry christmas to all =)

p/s: thank you dalena for ur christmas card =) u'll get mine soon!
